These are all wonderful and noble reasons for starting your own web business and working from home. But,not all of them resonates with every single person. And these six reasons are not cut and dry either. And that's OK. Whatever your reason for wanting to work from home, its the right one.

I don't have young children who need me to be there to drive them to soccer and ballet. I do have two furry "kids", and it is a delightful feeling to know that when I need a break from the computer or the desk, I can grab a tennis ball and take the dog out in the yard. Or grab the laser pointer and play with the cat. Just these two activities during the day have significantly reduced my stress levels.

When we lived just outside of Chicago, both my husband and I had an hour commute (give or take for weather and traffic accidents). That was actually the norm for "the big city", and we didn't even live or work "downtown". When you drive an extra 10 hours a week to work, for half your life, you don't realize how much time you have lost. Sure, a good CD or an audible book series can make it more enjoyable, but when I think of all the other MORE enjoyable things that I could be doing while listening to that CD, I want to cry.

My Reasons: NO COMMUTE and WORK ANYWHERE.

The two biggies for me were NO COMMUTE and WORK ANYWHERE.

In 2002 I bought a brand new car. A sporty 6 cylinder Monte Carlo. It was my first OFF THE LOT NEW car with only 10 miles on it and 7 of them where my test drive. I love that car. Still do. But, by 2008 I had almost 100,000 miles on it. I used it every day, and although it didn't guzzle like the old mid 80's 8 cylinders I had in the past, it was not cheap to drive, especially when the price of gas surpassed $5 per gallon. That's when I did the math and realized that I was spending 1/5 of my paycheck and 10 hours of my life, JUST GETTING TO THE OFFICE EVERY WEEK! I knew at that point something had to change. (Huh, what a coincidence, I started www.Aruba-Sunsets.com in November, 2008!)

In 2008 like thousands of Americans we ran into some financial issues with the economy the way it was. We were struggling to make the mortgage payments, so we made some very difficult decisions, and we packed up and moved from the Chicago suburbs to the East Coast and stayed with family. The cost of living was high, Unemployment was higher. Last year we were given an unbelievable opportunity to move south. The economy was picking up, and the cost of living was well within our reach. My husband found a job doing what he loves to do... computers. And I work from home. Through all these moves in the last 6 years, my business came with me. I didn't have to pick up and start again in a new city. My business is on the internet! (ok, I also have some things on my laptop, and files on my USB memory stick, but its ALL PORTABLE!)

What are your reasons for working from home? I would love to hear from you.

Free e-Books to Help You with Your Web Biz Success

I had posted these books by Dr. Ken Evoy on my website a while back. I read them, absorbed their info, and offered them to my readers and then put them on the "virtual" shelf as I built my business.

I was updating some links on my site today, when I came across them again. These books may be a few years old, but the information is still incredible. Dr. Evoy is the author of a series of widely-acclaimed e-commerce books and courses for small businesses or home based internet businesses that sell or plan to sell products or services online. His company, SiteSell.com, is a leader in Net marketing products that work and its flagship product, Site Build It!, (SBI!) brings the power of the internet to the average, non-tech-savvy small business person who may not “know tech”... but knows his/her business.

The books/courses that are available for download:
  • Affiliate Masters Course
  • The Work at Home Mom's Masters Course
  • Make Your Net Auction Sell! Masters Course
  • The Net Writing Masters Course
If anyone is interested in these books, you can download them here for free.

5 Fundamental Keys to a Successful Web Business

There are 5 Things to remember, especially in the planning stages of building your web business.

Owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks
  1. You must be passionate about the topic you choose. After all, you will be spending a lot of time telling others why you love this topic, so actually liking what you are writing about makes "work" become "fun".
  2. Your topic MUST be in demand - In other words, a good number of people MUST also be interested in what you are talking (writing) about.
  3. It must be in demand but NOT TOO BROAD. A topic that is too broad will have way too much competition for a start-up-business to get the rankings at the Search Engines. (It might be possible with millions of invested $ in marketing to purchase the top BROAD keywords, but really? Who has that kind of cash? Most of us are starting a Web Biz to make money, not to gamble millions.
  4. You must be willing to put in the time it needs. This does not mean that you have to spend 24/7 at the computer. If you do your research correctly in the beginning, you can determine a topic that will be successful and is in sync with your allotted time to work on your business, whether that is 5 hours a week or 40.
  5. Your site must have GREAT ROI potential. (Return on Investment for those new to this stuff.) There are many different ways to make money with a web business - from Google Adsense to selling your own products.

Five ways you could work from home

Are You The “Work From Home” Type? The Answer May Shock You!
Five ways you could work from home.

Most people have thought about, and even considered, (or at the very least, fantasized about) working from home and being your own boss. In this age of technology, computers, and cell phones, there are plenty of opportunities available to you if you have the determination, motivation and guts to do it.

I personally embrace two of these methods in my "Work at Home" business strategy. I am both a Freelancer (expert in graphic design services) and an Information Monetizer (writing excellent, sought after content for my website(s), blogs, and social media.)

Do you have what it takes? I think you do!

The Start of My Web Biz Success

I first made the below post on my Facebook Page (WebBizSuccess) back in October. If you have
The Perks of Working From Home!
been trying to follow along in FB, shortly after I made that announcement, life got crazy for a while and I had to make a few detours before continuing on with my new business plan. Some of you have asked if I would be posting the details of my progress on Facebook. Yes, I am, but, and I also realized the other day that some of my posts were either too long, or just didn't fit the Facebook format. So, I decided to start my very own blog of my new web biz success story! Follow my progress here: web-biz-success.blogspot.com, or via Facebook, or (eventually) through Google+ (I haven't figured out how to set that up yet. I never said I was an expert at all online tools - That's why I am so glad I found SBI. But that is a post for another time.)

So, come and watch me build my next successful web business. I hope that what you learn from me, here, will give you all the confidence and encouragement to be your own boss and the Master of Your Own (Website) Domain. (OK, corny pun, I admit it.)

October 1, 2013

I decided it was about time to start my second successful business website. My first one is doing well, so I'm going to reinvest the profits into another. Of course, I am going to use Site Build it! (SBI) It is because of SBI that www.Aruba-Sunsets.com has been so successful, and I have to stick with what works.

It's been a while, so I pulled out the SBI! Action Guide and watched the first five videos to refresh my brain. The first five "days" are all about planning using the SBI tools to determine the best niche, and keywords. It's mostly about analyzing the resulting numbers and using your human judgement to plan exactly the right site for you.

Since I'm a left brain, creative type, this is the difficult part for me. But, I know that if I breath and don't let myself get overwhelmed, I will have the blueprint to my second successful site in my hands and ready to be built in just a few days.

Create a Facebook Cover Photo for Your Biz Page

Facebook, despite recent controversy about its business/page advertising practices, is still one of the most used social media networks. Almost every company, from Fortune 500 to sole proprietors, recognizes the good business sense to have a business Facebook Page. Its free to create it, and it gives your business a web presence in front of an audience of millions of Facebook users. So, your Business Facebook Page should look professional and represent you and your business brand.
Danielle Glick wrote a great blog post with step by step instructions on how to create a professional looking cover photo for your Facebook Timeline that looks great and gets the attention of your customers, clients, or other business professionals.
