Branding Tips for Entrepreneurs from a Graphic Designer

As a Graphic Designer with a background in Commercial Art, I can't even begin to count how many times entrepreneurs have asked me to "help" with Branding. This trend has seemingly escalated especially over the last year or so.

The biggest challenge with this is that many small business owners know their business and their products/service, but they don't know anything about design. So, by the time they ask for my help, it is usually necessary to start the branding process from the beginning. Many of them have poured their heart and soul into building their business, and it is taken as a personal slight when I recommend starting the branding project from scratch.

So, in the next few weeks I will be posting my Branding Tips for Entrepreneurs here. (There is way too much info to cover in a single post.) Hopefully, this will give many of you a better understanding of the branding process, and give you a clear vision of what you want your brand will look like.

Most entrepreneurs ARE the business. They are the Office Manager, the CEO, the Marketing Department, the Sales Department, the R&D, and with video consulting becoming a trend; the Audiovisual Tech….This usually leaves little time for "The Graphics/Art Department" and even less of a budget!

Don't worry! I will show you quick tricks for fast results. I will also show you online tools and programs where you can DIY for free (or nearly free), NO PHOTOSHOP necessary!

Of course, a small few of you might decide you want very specific graphics, design projects, or concepts that will still require a graphic designer's expertise. I can help with that, but, that is not the intention here.

If you have already started your small business, you most likely already come up with a name for it. However, if you haven't yet, here is some good info to help you come up with a name for your business.

Not every business has a Tagline or Slogan. Not every business needs one. BUT, EVERY BUSINESS OWNER should KNOW what sets her business apart from others! What do you think you do differently that inspired you to start a business in the first place?
If you have gotten to this point in your business, you likely already put a lot of thought into your branding without even realizing it.
You just need help expressing it graphically.
Coming up, I intend to show you the key elements of branding design:

  • Color
  • Fonts
  • Images
  • Design Elements

So stay tuned!

Love What You do!

One of the goals for this blog is to encourage Entrepreneurs and everyday people to do what they love and love what they do.

Site Build It does that everyday...Just a quick share of a video I found the other day.

Jill and I have a lot in common. She loved San Fransisco so much that, with the help of SBI, she built www.sftourismtips.com. Just like I built www.aruba-sunsets.com out of my love for Aruba, with the help of SBI (Site Build It).
